Principal's Message

Dear Parents, Guardians and other members of the Fulton Community,

Along with the entire J.E. Lanigan Staff and Students, I would like to welcome you to our school and website. Through visiting our website and from visiting our school, it will become very clear that J.E. Lanigan Elementary School strives to create a safe , successful , engaging environment where all students can learn.

This year will be especially challenging as we undergo a capital project that will have a large part of our building (the intermediate wing) completely renovated.  We are also having new floors installed in the remainder of the halls, the cafeteria, music room and art room.  The most wide-reaching aspect of the project will be the new Library Media Center.  All students will have access to this space in the center of the intermediate wing.

In order for this to take place, we need to vacate the areas being worked on.  Our 4th graders will be going to Granby Elementary with their Lanigan teachers from the start of the year through February.  Our 5th graders will be going to Volney Elementary with their Lanigan teachers through February.  Thank you for your flexibility during this project.

My background:

Although I may be new to J.E. Lanigan Elementary School , I have enjoyed 13 years of teaching, coaching and leading in the Fulton City School District . In all, I have spent over 20 years in the field of education, with 5 years as principal, and great experiences as a teacher assistant and substitute teacher. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in the coming months and to being a part of student success here.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to call me at 593-5470.

I approach the 2009-2010 school year with great hope and determination to empower the entire J.E. Lanigan Learning Community to realize all of the success it can for our most prized resources, our children.

Dan Johnson
J. E. Lanigan Elementary Principal

I'd like to leave you with the first stanza of an Emily Dickinson Poem. My hope is that as a school, J.E. Lanigan School will be a place where hope will flourish, and success will follow.

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without words
And never stops at all,
