Volney Elementary School Announcements:

***Words of the Week - January 12th-19th***
ANALOGY: Noun - An analogy is a comparison in which an idea or a thing is compared to another thing that is quite different from it. It aims at explaining that idea or thing by comparing it to something that is familiar. Metaphors and similes are tools used to draw an analogy. Therefore, analogy is more extensive and elaborate than either a simile or a metaphor.

Examples of Analogies:

*Just as a sword is the weapon of a warrior, a pen is the weapon of a writer.

*How a doctor diagnoses diseases is like how a detective investigates crimes.

*Just as a caterpillar comes out of its cocoon, so we must come out of our comfort zone.

ARTICULATE: Verb – Able to express oneself clearly and effectively in both speech and writing; to speak clearly.

***Word of the Week - January 5-9***
The Word of the Week is "Analyze".

The meaning of Analyze is: to examine something to find out what it is or what makes it work.

Use analyze in a sentence:

*Analysts are being asked to analyze more data, from a wider variety of sources, in a shorter amount of time.

*Try to analyze why you postpone studying these topics by discussing them with other students.

*Unfold the model back to the original square of paper and analyze the crease pattern of mountain and valley folds.

***WEATHER FORECAST***

*Wonderopolis* Wonder of the Day!

*REGISTERING NEW STUDENTS*
Students new to the Fulton School District must be registered at the Central Registration Office. We no longer register students at the individual schools. All students transferring to Volney School, even if coming from another school in Fulton, must be registered at the Central Registrar's Office, located in the Fulton Education Center at 167 South Fourth Street.

Central Registration hours are from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM during the summer, and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM during the school year.

Parents need to bring the following necessary items with them:

*Original Birth Certificate

*Proof of Residency

*Immunization Records

*Records from previous school if you have them

*Custody Papers if applicable.

Forms used in the registration process can be found on the District's website home page under "Student Registration". Parents are welcome to print these materials and complete them prior to going to the Central Registrar's Office.

If you have any questions, please feel free to either contact the Central Registrar's Office @ 593-5513, or the Volney School Main Office @ 593-5570.
