Junior High Sign Dedicated to Mark Slosek

The Fulton Junior High School Parent Group dedicated the new school sign to outgoing principal Mark Slosek at a recent ceremony held at the school. Members of the Fulton City School District Board of Education, Superintendent Bill Lynch, Executive Director of Instruction and Assessment Betsy Conners, new Principal at the Junior High School Donna Parkhurst and Junior High parent group members attended the ceremony which honored Slosek, for his 39 years of service to the District.

The parent group at the junior high has raised money for other improvements to the school including the completion of the courtyard project earlier this year and thought it would be a fitting honor to dedicate the new school sign to Slosek as he prepared to leave his position at the school.

“It has been a pleasure,” Slosek said, “working with the parent group.” The group also presented Slosek with a plaque which recognized him for 39 years of leadership, commitment and dedication to the students, staff and community of the Fulton City School District . Slosek thanked the group and also thanked his wife for always being there and understanding the rigorous demands for his time that his position has required over the years.

Amy Maxam, president of the junior high parent group, enlisted the help of her husband, Mike, a local architect, to create the design for the sign which will replace the wooden sign at the entrance to the junior high. Tom Venezia of Northern Concrete donated the materials for the sign and Bill Adams and his masonry class at Oswego County BOCES completed the construction of the sign just in time for the dedication ceremony.

Members of the Fulton Junior High School Parent Group, board members and administration from the Fulton City School District were on hand for the dedication of the new school sign to outgoing principal at the junior high, Mark Slosek.

Dan Mainville presented with Outstanding Teacher Award

Dan Mainville, a biology teacher at G. Ray Bodley High School, recently received an Outstanding Teacher Award presented by The Technology Alliance of Central New York. He uses technology as a part of his teaching style to keep students interested and involved in learning. Biology is a requirement for graduation and students enjoy having him for a teacher. Some of the items that Mr. Mainville uses are different equipment (ex: Pasco probeware , gel electrophoresis , etc), games, PowerPoint presentations and has a web page with internet links to help him teach.

In 1998, The Technology Alliance of Central New York began to give awards to teachers. This year, forty-four teachers from Cayuga, Cortland , Madison , Onondaga and Oswego counties were nominated for an award.
